Experience and expertise

SLA has extensive experience with complex urban sites in many jurisdictions. The company’s particular passion for mixed-use projects strives to bring a richness to the urban fabric of a city, allowing for people to live, work, play and thrive.

SLA is pleased to share expertise in urban design, master planning, site planning, multi-family housing, mixed-use developments and infrastructure projects as well as experience in various project delivery methods, from design-bid-build to construction managed to design-build or Public-Private-Partnership (P3). We are passionate about sustainable features in all our projects with a specific interest in Passive House (Learn more about high performance buildings) and with our wood-first principle, the use of BC engineered wood and mass timber (Learn more about mass timber).

We have extensive experience with complex urban sites in many jurisdictions including Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Victoria, Squamish, Langley, Calgary, Fort McMurray and Saskatoon. Each site influences the design of the project significantly and no one solution fits all – we are contextualists and collaborate closely with all stakeholders.

We have extensive experience with complex sites looking for optimized solutions that cater to all stakeholders with a keen eye on sustainability.

We have extensive experience in a range of complex urban sites as well as rural or suburban sites and aim to optimize and deliver through a collaborative process.

We have extensive experience in a range of housing types, from wood frame apartments to townhouses, stacked townhouses and mid-rise concrete construction. We are currently actively working on Passive House and the use of mass timber for these building types.

We have extensive experience and a particular passion for mixed-use projects. They bring a richness to the urban fabric of the city allowing for people to live, work and play within their neighbourhood while also addressing affordability and housing options. We are currently actively working on Passive House and the use of mass timber for these building types.

We have a wide range of infrastructure experience including water pump stations, wastewater pump stations, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants and district energy plants. We are excited to be given the opportunity to assist in power generation projects and specifically run-of-the-river projects. We have completed several successful mass timber infrastructure projects.
